Chapter 5: A/R Accounts

Introduction

An Accounts Receivable account is a current asset account in your General Ledger summarizing the amount of money owed to your business by those to whom you have sold goods or services.

All accounts are included in the G/L Chart of Account file, but some accounts are also included in separate files of their own. In addition, the program lets you associate comments with any A/R account.

OpenPro.com A/R provides for an unlimited number of Accounts Receivable accounts. You may enter as many as your business needs.

You can set up multiple A/R accounts and then assign each customer to one of those accounts. All postings for a customer will debit or credit the A/R account associated with that customer.

To Begin

The G/L Chart of Accounts needs to be added first. Then, go to Customer Class to assign the correct accounts to the customers.

Entering A/R Accounts

To add a receivable class, go to Receivables > Maintenance > Customer Class and click on Add Customer Class. The following screen appears:

From this screen you can add new classes. To change existing classes, go to the Receivables > Maintenance > Customer Class menu and click on Edit+ next to the desired entry.

This is very important: these are the accounts used during the posting of receivable transactions and sales order/pos transaction processing. At least one DEFAULT transaction has to be established before processing any transactions in the system.
